Becky Chavarría-Cháirez is a Latina author, writer, veteran
broadcast journalist and playwright whose stories are featured in the
fully bilingual, children's picture book series published by Piñata Books,
the children's imprint of Arte Público Press, the nation's oldest and
largest publisher of US Hispanic Literature.
The award-winning
cultural commentator and writer has assumed a new creative voice in support
of her
personal mission to write for and about Latino children, who are no longer
an unrecognized minority but a vital majority of youngsters who indeed are
our
future. Becky Chavarría-Chairez delights audiences with her stories
which blend cross-cultural experiences and promote language -- bringing literary and cultural enhancement to schools,

A Career Communicator
Becky is a career communicator and "seasoned" writer.
One of the first Latinas to venture into broadcasting, she began her
professional career
in
Top 40 radio and public affairs programming soon after celebrating her
nineteenth birthday. Hired partly because she had no "Spanish" accent
-- although Spanish was her first language-- she was adamant about keeping
and using her not-so-common, nor easy-to-pronounce surname.
An avid multi- & cross-culturalist, Becky is passionate about Pan-Hispanic
culture and languages. An award-winning radio commentator, cultural critic and
opinion/editorial writer, her work has been featured in several major US
newspapers, magazines and periodicals including
Atlanta Journal Constitution, Hispanic Magazine, San Antonio
Express-News, San Francisco Chronicle
among others. She is a former regular columnist with the
Dallas Business Journal, Dallas Morning News, National Business News, WE:
Women's Enterprise. Her expertise in Hispanic and general market
broadcast and print media, public & media relations. She has
interviewed prominent political leaders, numerous authors, celebrities and personalities from
all walks of life.
Currently, she is working on several projects, including her memoirs, an anthology of her literary work, and,
of course,
more children's book
manuscripts.
