  Magda has a Friend in the White House

 Did you know that First Lady Laura Bush is a Magda fan?  Magda's Tortillas/Las Tortillas de Magda is recommended by Mrs. Bush as among her favorite   "Books to Read to and with Young Children".  Check out the rest of the list and reading tips for parents at http://www.whitehouse.gov

Magda Heads for the Stage!                         

Magda's Tortillas is presented on stage at the Institute of Texan Cultures Blue Bonnet Puppet Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.  And just like the book, the author has adapted the story into two scripts -- in English and Spanish --  making this the first bilingual children's offering at the Institute. Becky Chavarrķa-Chairez voiced the part of Abuela and the author's daughter, Carina, plays Magda.  The puppet show is narrated by Henry Cisneros, with music composed by George Cisneros.
